(Regina, SK) – Today, at the opening of the new head office for Namerind Housing Corporation, President and CEO Robert Byers announced an exciting new development project – the first of its kind in downtown Regina.

“With this project, we are launching a new arm of Namerind Housing – Namerind Development Corporation,” said Robert Byers, CEO of Namerind. “For over three years, we have been working on a vision to bring affordable housing and much-needed services to downtown Regina and today I am thrilled to say that this vision is becoming a reality.”

The development, which will be erected in the form of two towers at the corner of Lorne Street and 11th Avenue, will include approximately 178 housing units, a licensed daycare, grocery store, green space and parking.

“I am thrilled to join this announcement today as Namerind embarks on yet another exciting project to benefit our City,” said Regina Mayor Michael Fougere. “Affordable housing is a priority in our City and to be able to provide more homes while also participating in the revitalization of our downtown area is a wonderful addition to Namerind’s social enterprise portfolio.”

Phase One of construction consisted of the demolition of 1840 Lorne Street and the construction of a temporary parking lot in the space. Namerind Place is designed as a self-sustaining entity, with the commercial elements funding the affordable housing.

“All of our projects aim to provide sustainable housing – both financially and environmentally,” said Byers. “We look forward to providing these homes for generations to come.”
